British pole poll

Sorry this is so late we had a very surprising new technology roll out at work on Friday. We decided to roll it out about 10 minutes before it went live.

This was quite in contrast to the telegraphing of Coulthard's retirement. But it was much more in sync with the sudden dumping of Silverstone. It will be at donnington from 2010.

So as we savour one of the last Silverstone grand prix for a few years we have to ask you dear reader what is going to happen.

The Ferraris always seem to go well here. But at the test last week the McLarens did seem to have made a step forward. Perhaps Lewis will make it on pole but will doing so raise the expectations to untenable heights? And during the race will they be able to keep things together?

At Ferrari Massa seems to have been turning quite a few people's heads. But Kimi was faster than him in both of the last two races (only losing out because of being crashed into by Lewis or his exhaust falling off).

Remember: if you do ask Lewis to win the British Grand Prix for you he might say, straight away, that he wants to do it. But he will have to ask his Dad first.

Almost as an afterthought I might mention that there is a chance of rain.

We would like your top eight drivers and the pole sitter. And if you were present at Friday practice we would like a full report - you know who you are.

I'm afraid I don't know the times because I am on the train and it will take too long to look up. Good luck!

I'm going to have to go early on this one.

Let's have Lewis on pole then

1. Kimi
2. Lewis
3. Massa
4. Bob
5. Heikki
6. Heidfeld
7. Webber
8. Coulthard

Crazy prediction of the day. In a rain swamped race we en up with Lewis, DC and Jenson on the podium.

By the way. Some great news is Anthony Davidson will be the third commentator today and tommorow.

Well, i'm still a bit busy too and i'm last so it can't get much worse for me by going early.

It's got to be Raikkonen all the way really.

Pole. Raikkonen
1.Raikkonen
2.Hamilton
3.Kovalainen
4.Massa
5.Kubica
6.Alonso
7.Webber
8.Heidfeld

We shall see ....

Pole: Räikkönen
1. Räikkönen
2. Hamilton
3. Massa
4. Kubica
5. Kovalainen
6. Heidfeld
7. Alonso
8. Webber

Tough one this. Alonso sneaks in with a late quick one in practice I see. But surely the silvers and the reds will turn it on for qualifying. But I am also tempted to go off-piste in an attempt to second guess the rest of the Pole Poll competitors!

Pole: Hamilton

1. Hamilton
2. Raikkonen
3. Massa
4. Kovalainen
5. Kubica
6. Webber
7. Alonso
8. Rosberg

(for the record I was this close to putting Kovalainen on pole, just to be different!)

Having been at Silverstone yesterday to see the practice sessions live, you might think I have an advantage, but this is far from true.

Pole: Kovalainen

1. Raikkonen
2. Kovalainen
3. Hamilton
4. Massa
5. Kubica
6. Webber
7. Sutil
8. Trulli

Blimey - this is a toughy today, they're all over the place in the three practice sessions. Bring on the rain!!!!

Pole: Kimi

1. Kimi
2. Massa
3. Kovalainen
4. Hamilton
5. Webber
6. Alonso
7. Kubica
8. Coulthard

I know I've put him fourth, but just to contradict myself my crazy prediction is Lewis will push too hard and fall off the track tomorrow....

I bloody knew it!

Always go with your gut instinct fourstar!

And to Nick with his "going to the track doesn't give me any special kind of advantage but I'll be the only person to correctly guess a highly unusual pole sitter" I can only say, "how much are tickets for next year?"

Second time this year I've overruled myself too. Bah!

What a race, best possible hangover cure for me today! Way to go Lewis, fantastic drive and one helluva way to prove me wrong!!! I'm not gonna grumble about those lost points, it was worth it to see a win like that. Awesome!!! And GO RUBENS!!!

Although I think I got only one point from the race!

Incidentally, I think Anthony Davidson was commentating on Silvestone radio, which is broadcast and played through loud-speakers at the circuit during the race.

He was on Radio 5 Live (which I think was on Silverstone radio or some such). That's what confused me. Somebody said "Davidstone will be commentating on the race" But I forgot about Radio.

He was there on Friday at least, perhaps he moved over to 5 Live for Sunday. Is he looking for the Martin job on the BBC? Perhaps he wants to race a bit more first.
