Earring on the side of caution
So last season they banned the drivers from wearing jewellery. This seemed like a ploy to particularly unsettle the red bull boys with their earrings. But it also upset Michael because he wore a necklace. Apparently it was a safety issue because the metal could burn you if there was a fire. Here's a picture of Liuzzi with his earring.

The interesting problem for next season is the announcement of Sebastian Bourdais. He races while wearing glasses:

Now which will the F1 rule makers think is more important?
a) The metal from his glasses might burn his face in an accident.
b) That he can see.
I'll leave you to answer the question.

I thought Jacques Villeneuve did too. Not sure. Anyway, apparently Bourdais wearing glasses has been one of the reasons why he hasn't made the switch to F1 in so long - either for safety, or for PR reasons (a bespectacled driver isn't very cool, you see).
I don't specifically remember Villeneuve wearing glasses racing but I think i recall that he was able, from a rule point of view, to wear glasses or contacts if he wanted. The conditions were that on the day the race organisers had to know which it was, so that if his helmet had to be removed after an accident or something the glasses could be taken off first.
Not sure if they had to be special plastic glasses or something though.
