The Rosa Recovery
#38, has commented back on Three times a driver about how he feels De La Rosa would have been as good as Hamilton. I thought I'd drag my reply up to the top.
I think that Hamilton is very good, but I'm pretty sure he isn't as good as Alonso. He might have the potential to be, but as they say one swallow does not make a summer. The last race might have made it out that way but it was a clearly a matter of the drive suiting one driver more than the other.
I don't however think that De La Rosa would have done as well. He was pretty good but I have never seen him do anything like the first corner heroics that Hamilton has done. That's what's impressed everyone. He has innate racing nous. Some people can drive cars quickly and reliably (and almost every F1 driver counts in that category they have to) but some of them are born racers and I think that's what gives them the edge (Kimi, Alonso and Hamilton seem to have this).

Hi Alex,
I was looking for a way to write you off the site pages but......this could be entertaining for everyone.
I mentioned Bulmer's Cider and you asked if I were an ex-pat.........
the short answer is "no" although I've been accused of being more British than the Queen! Born in NORWICH.....Connecticut, USA. live in HALIFAX.....Virginia, USA. I'm 62 years old and have lived the life many can only wish for......
started racing an M.G. TD in 1971 and managed to race in support events at the US F1 GP 1973 through 1981 and the Canadian GP 1980 and 1981. I also raced at Sebring among many others. My M.G. was an extraordinary car, I brought it to England in 1990 and ran at Prescott Hillclimb......I might suggest a visit to www.formula1latest.com and go back through his archives (search articles about Number 38). There are more coming. I found one of your articles concerning Nurtured and Natural drivers interesting, I can't place myself on the scale but at my advanced age I can still confound the teenage wonder kids at the kart track! I (at my level) and Michael Schumacher (at 38) are living proof that a career doesn't end at an AGE. The impatient F1 fans got tired of Michael and I ran out of money! There are NASCAR drivers in their 50s and still competitive. Why F1 is so fascinated with these stinking greenhorn, novice, rookie kids I do not know. I have followed F1 thoughout it's 50+ years, longer than Bernie Ecclestone or MadMax Mosley, and am glad to say I can remember "the good old days" !!!
I've got opinions and experiences to keep a site running for a lifetime but.......perhaps another time. SAFETY FAST! Roy Jacobson (#38)
