Malaysian Pole Poll

The first début Ferrari driver to qualify on poll since Fangio, the first Ferrari driver to win his début race since Mansell, Kimi is looking pretty special out there for a man who doesn't think the car is actually going that well. Once he gets it actually to his liking what will he be able to achieve? But first there is the question of his engine. We won't know until Saturday Malaysian time. So we all have to take a giant gamble this weekend. What you think will happen with Kimi's engine determine what you think will happen on Sunday. But remember we do know that Malaysia is a good circuit for overtaking so even if Kimi is charging from the back he should still be able to do very well.

For the rest the McLaren seem to be running well, and may have improved on last time. BMW say they haven't been affected by the changes to the movable floors. And Renault seem to have improved on their reliability even if they haven't worked out how to make it go faster!

At the back of the grid we have to ask if Super Aguri will be able to stay in front of Honda, and will Toyota be able to get ahead of the Williams? Supurb stuff!

Comments:
We, at Sofa F1 have sent our ace roving reporter to the grand prix to report back on results. Sadly as Adrian is a newbie to all of this he has ended up in France by mistake! Regardless he has sent his predictions (I'll add my own in a moment or two):

Pole:

Raikkonen

Race:

Raikkonen
Alonso
Massa
Fisichella
Kovaleinen
Hamilton
Heidfeld
Barrichello

Enjoy!

A

By Adrian I mean fourstar of course - whoops!

So my own actual predictions

Pole:
Kimi

Race:
Kimi
Massa
Alonso
Hamilton
Kubica
Rosberg
Heidfeld
Heikki

I think testing the week before a race is a terrible idea. For some reason, though, the drivers seem to like it. My problem is that what we're most likely to see on Sunday, as we do in Spain, is a procession. Everyone knows the circuit so well that they make no mistakes and simply follow each other around in order. Nevertheless, the heat will wear them down, and some engines might break. So, for pole: Massa. And in the race:

1. Alonso
2. Massa
3. Raikkonen
4. Kubica
5. Rosberg
6. Heidfeld
7. Fisichella
8. Hamilton

Crazy prediction of the week is that Hamilton will lose his front wing on the first lap, go to the back and then overtake everyone to get into the top 3, before losing his front wing again and ending 8th.

Well, i reckon Raikkonen will either get pole and then blow up his dodgy engine in the race, or it will blow up in qualifying and he will win the race on a new engine anyway.

Williams should qualify well if last years performance is much to go by, hopefully they will get to the finish this year.

So hedging my bets

Pole Raikkonen

Raikkonen
Massa
Alonso
Hamilton
Kubica
Heikki
Rosberg
Heidfeld

Only 2 pole polls into the season, i am already realising how hard it is to pick the 3rd to 8th positions, so many combinations. I need a good one this weekend to save me from losing before it has all begun!

No one seems interested in backing Toyota for the top 8!

I'm so annoyed that I didn't put Massa on pole, I really almost did.

Indeed. Everyone was suckered into this Raikkonen hype except me.

Although of course I only said Massa because I thought Kimi would blow his engine.
