The Button didn't work
So the result of our Poll (a day late, sorry about that):

And we can see that the one thing that everyone is agreed on is that Lewis Hamilton isn't the new Button. Most people think he could be the next Hakkinen which is pretty good for a rookie. This is the most in agreement the readers of SofaF1 have ever been. So we're probably right. Although I, rather madly, voted for him to be the next Schumacher. We'll check back in a few years and see if I was right.
Anyway, new question for the season, who is going to be the first to be fired this season?

I think this weeks poll should include Button as a candidate to be fired this season, his comments at Melbourne about his car can't be good for team morale!
It will be interesting to see if Hamilton does get anywhere near to 91 career wins.
I'm sure we would all agree that Schumacher's tally of 91 almost defies belief. Even more so when you realise that 91 is only 1 win away from the combined total of the next two drivers in the rankings. Alain Prost on 51 and Ayrton Senna on 41. Not exaclty average drivers either.
Hamilton has a mountain to climb to fulfill Al's prediction but it is going to be fun watching him try!

The problem I have with these polls is that they are deeply fallacious. Someone could now say 'sofaf1 believes Hamilton is the next Hakkinen', when that's not true. I have a suspicion he might be the next Villeneuve, but that wasn't even an option!
Did you vote then? That seems to me to be the thing.
It is a problem about the polls. I did think that Button could be included on the poll but then on the other hand you don't want to spread the options so thin that every option ends up with one vote.
Perhaps the poll isn't a good idea. Maybe we should have a vote about that? Personally I feel that it is fun and engaging, especially for people who might not be willing / feel qualified to make a full post. I hope that the sofa regulars would do as Stew has and suggest modifications or explanations for their votes.
Anyway hopefully it prompts debate, that's the aim. And at the very least, I have added Button to the list.

Don't get me wrong, I think the poll is great fun. I was just playing the devil's advocate: for example, I'd say the chances of Button getting fired are almost zero, but then that's just me. The point of polls is to get different people's opinions, not to get everyone to agree.
But yes, you have to limit your options, and I think it's always going to be debatable whether you've limited the right ones. That's the fun bit!
Always having the option 'Other', that some polls do, isn't a good solution I don't think.
