Magic Montoya Moments

Perhaps it's a bit late to reminisce about the loss of Juan Pablo, and I never particularly thought he was a great driver, but seeing the lack of overtaking last weekend in France did make me miss him chucking his car around and lurching it into corners later than anyone else, only a lap after James had said you can't overtake there, as if he was playing a video game on invincible mode. My favourite moments?

Spa a few years ago and his two (or three?) moves down into the Bus stop. I think I remember him actually pushing Michael out of the way.

Also, the fastest lap ever in a Formula 1 car which he performed at Monza. That was mind-blowing stuff.

Comments:
I think Montoya overtook Michael on his first race? Can that be right? Actually it was his third race, and it was in Brazil. He would have won that race if he hadn't banged into Jos Verstappen.

It was a stamp of authority move, and one that everyone noticed.

I remember thinking a few years ago that if he'd won that race he would have been a better driver.

I think I remember thinking the same thing about Montoya too - if he'd won, maybe he would've had the confidence to be great.

But that one race seemed to show us both the good and the bad things about him all at once...

I remember it wasn't all Verstappen's fault (although he is good friends with Michael...) and that Montoya got way too close to him: he lapped him, then pulled in tight in front of him and braked early for the next corner, perhaps trying to scare Jos, or teach him a lesson. If Montoya had just kept his head, kept well clear of Jos, he could have easily won.
